书面表达是高中英语教学的重要内容之一。如何提高高三学生的书面表达能力是高三英语教学的一大课题。

书面表达讲评课是提高学生书面表达能力不可或缺的环节, 其涉及的学生面比“面批面改”更广, 能在一定程度上减轻教师的负担。在书面表达讲评课的教学实践中, 笔者通常以与学生水平相当、贴近学生生活、真实性强且有一定的开放性等要素为选材原则, 精选一篇书面表达材料作为学生的作业, 要求学生在20分钟内独立完成写作任务;之后, 笔者按学号任意抽取学生习作进行批改。在批改过程中, 笔者对学生习作中的共性错误以及高级词汇、较复杂的表达进行罗列和分类, 并选择一篇优秀习作作为讲评课的素材。现以如下一篇材料为例来说明具体的操作方法。

假如你是李越, 你的英国网友David来信说他打算来华留学, 想知道初到中国可能遇到的困难。请你用英语给他写一封回信, 信的内容应包括:

1. 可能遇到的困难:语言方面的障碍、饮食不习惯、想家等。

2.鼓励他, 并表示愿意提供帮助。

二、教学目标

1. 通过鉴别共性错误, 反思习作中的错误。

2. 欣赏一些优美的表达, 灵活运用所学知识。

3. 欣赏一篇优秀习作, 提高进行写作的谋篇布局的能力。

三、教学流程

1. 强调书写的重要性

教师在大屏幕上呈现事先扫描好的几篇学生习作, 将字迹潦草、涂改严重的学生习作和书写工整、卷面美观的学生习作进行比较, 强调书写端正、卷面整洁的重要性。

2. 指导审题

(1) 学生浏览以上材料后, 思考材料中哪些是对写作背景的交代, 哪些是需要翻译的要点, 确定写作的基本内容。

需要翻译的要点:

(1) 可能遇到的困难:语言方面的障碍、饮食不习惯、想家等;

(2) 鼓励他 (David) , 并表示愿意提供帮助;

(3) 书信结尾的客套用语。

(2) 时态的选择:因为材料讲述的是David到中国后将会遇到的困难以及李越对他的鼓励等, 所以应选择一般将来时和一般现在时。

3. 改错

(1) 笔者将学生习作中的典型错误按单词拼写、句意表达、词汇使用、句子结构以及中式英语五个方面分类, 然后呈现在大屏幕上, 指导学生修改句子中的错误。

学生习作中的典型错误分类如下:

(1) 拼写错误, 如:

I want to give you some advise. (advise是动词, 名词为advice。)

(2) 句不达意, 如:

You can′t communicate with others in an easy way, as you know Chinese. (画线部分意为“由于你懂汉语”, 句子前后矛盾。)

(3) 用词不当, 如:

During you are here, … (during是介词, 不能引导从句。)

(4) 句子结构, 如

Different people speak Chinese are different. (此句应改为:Different people speak Chinese differently.)

(5) 中式英语

You may can′t communicate with Chinese people easily. (应删掉may。)

(2) 在学生修改完句子错误后, 笔者让学生在小组内交流修改的情况, 并对不同意见以及未能做出修改的句子展开讨论。

(3) 小组派代表汇报修改意见。教师就同一个意义向学生征求多种表达方式, 以激发学生的发散性思维。

4. 欣赏好句, 鼓励活学活用

(1) 笔者将学生习作中较好的表达按高级词汇的使用和较复杂句子结构的使用分为两大类, 呈现在大屏幕上, 并在每个句子后标注作者姓名, 以增强学生学习英语的成就感。

学生习作中较好的表达分类如下:

(1) 高级词汇的使用, 如:

You will suffer from serious homesickness.

(2) 较复杂句子结构的使用, 如:

It′s obvious that you′ll be faced with many great challenges in China.

(2) 学生将同学写出的优美词句与自己的相应表达进行对比, 以体会高级词汇和较复杂句子结构的使用。

(3) 笔者解释部分高级词汇和较复杂句子结构的用法, 并举例巩固。例如:

“Also, traditional Chinese food, which we really feast on, may not be so tasty to you.”一句中的feast on意为enjoy, feast一词来自SEFC Book 2BUnit 15 Destinations的Reading部分。此环节旨在鼓励学生运用学过的句型和短语。

5. 欣赏佳作, 关注谋篇布局

(1) 在大屏幕上展示一篇优秀的学生习作, 让学生阅读。

(2) 学生阅读以上范文后, 教师要求各小组讨论该篇习作能得高分的原因。

(3) 学生自由发表看法和体会:

S1:这篇作文使用了很多高级词汇, 如be of great difficulty, in various aspects, as a consequence of。

S2:还有frustrated, crack all these hard nuts, be in store。

S3:作文中使用了定语从句:you′ll come across;which differs from that of your country。

S4:我觉得which differs from that of your country中作者用that代替the lifestyle是正确的。

(4) 教师总结

“同学们观察得很仔细, 这篇作文之所以能得高分, 原因之一是使用了较多的高级词汇和较复杂的句子结构。同学们还应注意到本文中连接词的使用十分自然, 如here, so, what′s more, as a consequence of, however等;而且文章第一段讲述对方可能遇到的困难, 第二段鼓励对方并表示愿意提供帮助, 段落划分合理, 结构清晰。所以同学们一定要记住:书面表达不是句子的随意堆砌, 构成语篇的句子之间必须相互关联, 写作时一定要思考句与句、段与段之间的逻辑关系, 重视谋篇布局。”

6. 学生参照典型错误分类总结,

高级词汇、较复杂句子结构的使用以及学生佳作, 从语言、文法、逻辑、用词等方面修改自己的习作。

7. 小组活动:

英语水平有差异的4位学生组成学习小组, 小组成员相互批阅和评议同伴的作文, 并提出修改意见, 如段落结构、时态、语态、选词、主谓一致和拼写等, 标出有疑问的地方, 待相互讨论或征求教师意见后更正。在小组合作活动期间教师当堂指导。通过合作学习, 学生能取长补短, 增强推敲词句、谋篇布局的能力, 同时也提高了与他人交流的能力。

8. 布置作业:

学生修改作文, 书写工整后交给教师。此举旨在让学生在修改过程中复习写作技巧。

四、课后反思

1.书面表达能力的培养是一个循序渐进的过程。讲评课只是提高学生书面表达能力的一种途径。要真正提高学生的书面表达能力, 教师必须引导学生不断积累好的语言表达。教师可以指导学生在课外按热点话题分类, 精选短小精悍、原汁原味的文章, 督促学生每日诵读, 这是提高学生书面表达能力的一种有效方式。

2.讲评课仅是一个开始, 课后学习也很重要。教师如果能在课后精选几篇学生修改后的习作, 张贴在教室后面的黑板上, 将会更好地激发学生学习英语的兴趣, 同时为学生创造一个“交流——学习——提高”的平台。为了增强全体学生对英语写作的兴趣, 教师应按适当比例选取几篇英语薄弱生的习作放在墙报之中, 尽量让他们体会英语学习的成就感。

3.按学号任意抽取书面表达进行批改的方式缺乏科学性。课后, 笔者积极与本校其他英语教师商讨, 教师们一致认为应采用将全班学生按英语水平分为高、中、低三组, 从每组学生的习作中各抽取一半进行批改的方式。这样, 教师所归纳和分类的共性错误、高级词汇、较复杂的表达才更具有代表性, 学生在听课时也能各取所需。

一、讲评要强化审题,突出谋篇布局

审清题意是写好文章的第一步,清晰、合理的篇章结构是高分作文的最大特点。因此,强化学生的审题意识与谋篇布局的能力是书面表达讲评的第一任务。在拿到作文题目时,应让学生提问自己“写作该题目的意图何在”。只有搞清题意,学生才能有继续发挥的坚实基础。高考书面表达要求学生在审清题意的基础上,整合要点,合理编排。简单的分段,学生可能问题不大,但随着书面表达出题形式的多样化,如通过漫画、图表或图片加文字等形式来提供信息的题目,题目中没有明确的段落提示,这种情况下学生作文的段落就往往模糊不清,甚至不分段。下面,以“苏北五市2007届高三年级调研考试英语试卷”中的书面表达为例,在讲评中让学生在教师的引导下进行重新审题,重新谋篇布局,从而让学生找到差距,为下一次的书面表达提供借鉴。

该书面表达题给出了一段文字及一幅关于“心灵鸡汤”的广告图片。篇章结构及要点都需要学生自己去整理、归纳。在学生的书面表达中,主要出现的问题是思路不清、段落不明、要点不齐。当然在具体的表达中也出现了很多语法错误,但在讲评这个题目时,笔者着重强化了学生的审题、结构意识,提出了“四步走”的要求。

第一步:审题。要求学生根据下列表格的几个方面审清题意:

第二步:整理。要求学生根据题目所提供的信息整理出所有的要点。这篇文章学生共理出了以下10个要点:

(1)本书简介,最早出版于1993年,作者

(2)是一本能激励所有年龄层次读者的畅销书

(3)被翻译成数十种语言,将爱传至世界各地

(4)本书为英文版,尤其适合英语学习者

(5)over 8 million copies sold

(6)101 stories to open the heart and rekindle the spirit

(7)New York Times & USA Today

(8)网上订购(Dangdang.com)

(9)款到发货,24-48小时内送达

(10)价格为54.4元,省9.6元

第三步:整合。学生先要根据段落主题将这些要点进行分析归纳,如要点1-7属于第一段,8-10属于第二段;接着再要求学生根据要点的内在联系进行合理的整合。以第一段为例,学生在教师的指导下做了如下的整合:

第四步:表达。根据以上思路运用熟悉的短语或句型进行表达。

不难看出,这也是一个学生自我探索的过程,为整理线索和拓宽思路做了充分的准备。当学生审清题意,并能够合理安排文章的结构和要点后,就为优秀的书面表达提供了保证。

二、讲评要重技巧点拨,授之以渔

“授人以鱼,不如授之以渔。”在讲评过程中,教师要努力注意不要越俎代庖,给学生讲评更像是一个了

解学生写作意图的过程,然后引导学生以最好的方式实现自己意图的过程,而不是建议学生哪里需要改进。影响学生书面表达得分因素有很多方面,但即使是基础比较薄弱的学生,如果能教会他们适当的学习方法,他们也能够有效提高得分,尤其在临考阶段,讲评时的技巧点拨显得尤为重要。一般说来,常用的表达技巧有以下几种。

1. 拆分或整合要点

表达的准确性是高分作文的必备要求。要提高表达的准确性就要根据题目所提供的内容,对要点进行合理的拆分或整合。

从“南京市2008-2009学年度第一学期期末调研测试卷(高三英语)”的书面表达来看,多数学生书面表达的谋篇布局普遍都比较清晰、合理,但很多学生还是得不到一个理想的分数,关键问题在于表达。由于题目是以文字的形式给出,所以很多学生的表达基本是几个句子的翻译练习,并且出现了许多中式英语。因此,在讲评这个题目时,笔者就从学生的表达入手,着重强调了如何拆分或整合要点。例如,在点评学生关于“宿舍吵闹,影响学习和休息”的表达时,先向学生呈现他们自己的表达:

The dorms are quite noisy, which has a bad effect on their study and rest.

引导学生发现他们犯错的原因是直接翻译原句。接着再呈现两句:

(1)The dorms are so noisy that they cant focus on their studies. Whats worse, they even cant have a good sleep.

(2)They complain that the dorms cant provide them with a quiet atmosphere for study, as they are always noisy.

在引导学生分析以上两句表达的精妙之后,进而使学生掌握以下两个句子表达的技巧。技巧1:(如句1)当原句给出的意思包含两个以上时,要学会拆句表达;技巧2:(如句2)有效运用一些学过的套语句型,对所提供的要点进行重新整合,可以让表达与众不同。

2. 同义转换要点

命题者在提供信息时,有时会使用一些非常地道的中文。中文越地道,学生在用英语表达时越容易犯错。但如果学生能够学会对要点进行同义转换,这个问题就不存在了。例如,在写作有关食品安全问题时,很多学生将“厂商唯利是图,生产伪劣垃圾食品”表达成:The factories want more profit and they produce much rubbish food. 如果学生学会运用同义转换的手法,就不难发现所谓的伪劣垃圾食品即质量低、没有营养的食品,而不是rubbish. 同样,唯利是图即一心追求利润,这样一提示学生马上就会想到be desperate for/be dying for/be greedy for, with the intention of making more money等地道的短语。经过转换后,该要点就可以这样表达:With the intention of making more money, they produce much food with poor quality, some of which is even harmful to peoples health. 经过转换,信息的表达显得更为自然、清晰、到位。

3. 将要点中的抽象内容具体化

有时题目提供的要点信息比较概括,也比较空泛。对于这种信息,最好的处理办法是把这些概括的内容具体化。这样,表达既可以落到实处,同时也会成为亮点。例如,有关于表达“尊重、关心他人,富有同情心”这样的内容,有学生是这样表达的:We should respect and care for others, and we should show sympathy for them. 这样的表达读起来让人感觉空洞无物,但如果将“富有同情心”进行具体化处理,则可以表达为:We should respect and care for others. Whenever they are in trouble, well always be ready to give them a helping hand. 这样的表达读来让人感觉形象真实、语言生动,自然就能提升文章的档次。

三、讲评要关注细节添加,提高流畅性

文章的流畅性是影响评分的一个关键因素。那么如何提高文章的流畅性?教师应该指导学生进行回归式写作,不断回到已经写好的地方进行修改,进行自我反馈。除了使用一些合理的衔接词之外,合理的细节添加也是一个非常有效的修改手段。

例如,“南京市2008-2009学年度第一学期期末调研测试卷(高三英语)”的书面表达中很多学生将“熄灯制度限定了学习时间”表达成:The blackout rule limits their learning time. 这样的表达读起来干巴巴的,索然无味。但如果采用细节添加的方法,就能焕然一新:The blackout rule, intended to guarantee their sleeping time, actually greatly limited their learning time, which of course makes the students worried. 添加的细节合情合理、真实可信,自然产生了亮点。

当然,在回归式写作的细节添加时,还有一个关注点:一定要教会学生自己判断哪些是合理的细节,哪些是不必要的细节。因为不必要细节的添加,反而会成为文章的一个败笔。所以,教师必须教给学生判断合理细节的方法。一般说来,细节是否合理可以从以下两方面来判断。

1. 细节要有助于烘托主题

能够帮助烘托主题的细节肯定是一个合理的细节。例如,2008年的热点写作话题是考试焦虑。有学生在描写“焦虑的症状:头晕、乏力、睡眠不好、食欲不振等”时是这样表达的:Some students will feel dizzy and tired because of anxiety. Others will even have poor appetite. 这两个细节的添加就很好地烘托了主题:(由考试焦虑引起的)症状。但也有学生这样表达:Some students always feel dizzy and tired while others cant sleep very well at night. They only have a few sleeping hours because of mountains of homework. 这就是一个不合理细节,因为脱离了本段的主题“症状”,读来感觉比较突兀,不但没有帮助烘托段落主题,反而分散了段落的主题。

2. 细节的添加要符合逻辑

添加的细节要符合逻辑才能站得住脚,具有说服力。逻辑性也是在添加细节时要关注的方面。例如,有关描写“雪灾的影响:房屋倒塌、断水断电、食品供应紧张”时,有学生写道:Water and electricity were out of supply. Some people, especially the poor, even had little food to eat. 这个细节在这里就不太符合逻辑,因为人们挨饿的原因是由于雪灾阻断交通,导致食品无法供应,而不是由于贫穷买不起食品。换个角度,如果这样添加:Some people, including the old and the young, had little food to eat, suffering from hunger for several days. 这样的细节添加,符合逻辑,也让人信服。

四、讲评要重点探讨个人发挥,突出亮点

学生的个人发挥部分在作文评分时是一个举足轻重的部分,但也是大部分学生感到困难的部分。困难的原因有多个方面,但如果教师在讲评这部分时能给予学生方法、技巧上的指导,那么这部分就能成为学生习作中的亮点。

首先,教师应当培养学生的聚类能力,帮助学生挖掘题材并将挖掘出来的内容组织起来,鼓励学生产生尽可能多的与写作文题相关的想法,然后将与文题联系最紧密的想法聚类,进而加以发挥。这里应该强调一个“主题意识”。即学生必须清楚写的主题是什么,根据这个主题去发表自己的看法,这样可以有效地避免跑题。例如,“南京市2007届高三第一次调研测试卷(英语)”的书面表达,要求学生结合漫画与文字表达对境外旅游的个别人的做法发表看法。学生的书面表达中有这样两个看法:A. It seems that people care little about the environment. They sometimes spit and even throw the waste onto the grass directly, which is really a worrying problem. B. Some litter and spit everywhere. The poor behavior has done great harm to the image of China, which is really shameful. 一比较就可以发现:观点A没有抓住文章的关键(境外旅游),发表的看法不具有典型性。而观点B就抓住主题,发表了最有说服力的看法。究其原因就在于“主题意识”。

其次,要求学生遵循“短语优先”原则。运用短语表达是最有效避免中国式英语的方法。例如,在表达有关“高三学生是否应该在外租房”的内容时下面这些学生的看法值得赞赏:A. In a rented apartment, we will have more time to study and gradually we will build up our confidence and make progress in our studies. B. Living together with our parents will make us relaxed, which is of great importance to us senior three students. C. The apartment will create a quieter atmosphere for our studies, which of course will improve our study efficiency. D. When we come across some difficulties, we can turn to our classmates or teachers for help.

最后还有一个建议:量力而行。学生应衡量自己的英语表达能力,有把握的就写,没有把握的就应该舍得删。否则只会起反作用,得分不高。

摘 要:高考英语书面表达一直是众多考生惧怕的一个难题,同时也是英语教学中的一个薄弱环节,许多考生的高考写作水平低,得不了高分,严重影响了英语整体成绩。分析关于高考书面写作表达中存在的问题及解决的对策有着深远意义。

关键词:书面表达;问题;对策

从高考英语试题题型来看,书面表达占的比例相当大,所以书面表达做得好与不好对考生的成绩影响特别大。根据历年高考评卷分析,相当多的考生在书面表达环节上失分严重。为了帮助考生解决这一难题,笔者从书面表达存在的问题及解决的办法两方面简要谈谈自己的看法。

一、存在的问题

1、用汉语的思维遣词造句

大多数考生在书面表达中,最常见的毛病就是“中文式英语”,平日里习惯了中文表达,在写英语文章时,也只是将句子直译出来,不能用英语思维,用英语表达意思,写作能力从根本上无法提高。如:If one side had trouble, eight sides came to help、(一方有难,八方支援。)这种句子中国人读起来较容易,也能够理解,但不符合英语表达习惯,也不规范。

2、语言使用有误,语法错误多

在高考的紧张环境下,许多考生不能灵活地运用所学知识准确地表达意思,总是会出现各种各样的错误,尤其是语法方面的错误。如,时态、语态、人称、单复数、大小写、前后逻辑关系等,使阅卷老师认为考生在基础英语方面存在的严重问题,从而失分情况在所难免。如,The professor gives us a speech the next week、这类句子在考卷中比比皆是。

3、谋篇布局与衔接能力弱

肯定不如双否好

修辞的使用在书面表达中算作很大的亮点,在高中阶段很少有学生会注重修辞的应用。双重否定也是种修辞,而且对于考生来说,只要稍加注意,可以在文章中设计双重否定的句子。例如想表达“邮递员天天准时到”,如果写成The postman comes on time every day,就不如变成双重否定,The postman never fails to come on time,就变成了亮点句,起到强调作用。几乎每个人对生活的态度都不同程度受到地震的影响,写成双重否定There was hardly a man or a woman whose attitude towards life had not affected by the earthquake.应用类似的修辞会在高考中为考生加分。
