随着人们思想观念的转变,大家越来越正式口语,很多家长都提出老师上课要多说英语,英语新课程标准也提倡,在英语课堂中使用全英教学。这都是好的要求,但是否适合所有年龄段的孩子们呢?在这一开展的过程中,小学英语课堂该如何取得一个平衡点?
在2001年完成修订的英语新课程标准,给传统的教育模式推出了很多创新的理念,其中有一项就是提倡课堂使用全英语教学。纵观现在大大小小的英语公开课,都会使用全英教学。这似乎变成了一项大家约定俗成的基本要求。新课标的推行已经踏进第十个年头,全英教学模式这一改革到底是否适应我们小学英语课堂呢?
一、全英教学在小学英语课堂的利
1、全英教学,能为学生创设良好的语言环境。
英语课程改革对21世纪人才培养提出目标内容,其中有两点提到“注重学生的全面发展,培养学生用英语进行交际的能力”和“培养有效的交流技能”,这两点都是强调学生运用英语的能力。要有意识地使用另外一种语言,要创设相应的语言环境。教师作为课堂的引导者,应该从自身出发,用英语来指导学生进行一系列的教学活动,也包括用英语评价和鼓励学生。它能有效缔造英语的语言环境,使学生进入角色。这样除了使学生掌握一定的语言基本知识和基本技能外,还帮助其建立初步的语感,获得初步运用英语的能力,为真实交际打下基础。
2、在小学课堂中使用全英教学,迫使教师专业水平的提高。
在过去小学教师被称为“万金油”,简单的来说就是要兼任多种学科教学,这其实也是赞扬小学教师的能力高。但是同时也暴露了一个问题,由于兼顾多种学科的教学工作,任务繁重,造成小学教师的个人专业水平很难得进一步提高,这样不利于构建有效课堂。因此提倡全英教学,就要求小学英语教师必须有过硬的专业知识水平。学生才能从简单的语言知识的传授,向语言知识和语言技能并重转变。也就是说不是单纯地停留在知道这个英文句子的意思还能在实际生活中运用。这是一个质的飞跃,也是英语新课标改革中的一个重要的指导思想。
3、小学英语测试的改革,使全英教学变得重要。
随着英语在社会中越来越重视,人们意识到单纯的笔头考试已经不能满足要求。为了改变这一现象,教学大纲提出“语言知识是为语言能力服务的,因此,考试、考查内容应单项和综合相结合,注意考查学生为交际综合运用语言知识的能力。”大纲还规定了“既要有笔试,也要有口试和听力测试。”现在我们随便翻开一张小学的英语测试试卷,都能看见听力部分占的比例是40%,有的甚至是50%。这样使小学课堂上使用全英教学变得重要。我们可以在平时的课堂上就可以提高学生的英语听力的适应性,不用再测试前复习课才进行题海训练。
二、全英教学在小学英语课堂的弊
1、全英教学,容易忽略中后生。
在一个班级中,中等生和后进生占半数。根据我个人的经验所得,这部分学生的学习特点:
(1)知识基础相对薄弱或不扎实,对新知识的掌握反应慢;(2)遇到不动知识,不主动向老师提出;(3)课堂上注意力持续时间不长。
从这我们不难看出,在课堂上迷信的使用全英教学,容易造成中等生和后进生由于听不明白,使其注意力不集中,完成不了课堂上的学习任务。加之课后他们遇到不懂的知识通常会选择自己随便写上答案,也不会主动请教老师。使得他们掌握知识越发困难,最后可能甚至失去学习英语的兴趣,这样一个恶性循环。
2、全英教学,容易造成教学资源的浪费。
初学英语者,尤其小学生,在课堂上所听所学的内容应该是比较固定,如果出现过多学生不理解的英语句子和单词,会造成他们的混淆或对所学知识的大量遗忘。其实课堂很多知识性的解释用汉语一说就懂了,课堂上你用英语教学,又是动作又是图画,搞得满头大汗也不见得能说明白。这样不但把有限的的课堂时间白白浪费掉,而且精心准备的教学资源也发挥不出其作用。
就此问题,我在本校进行了一次抽样调查。调查对象是小学三、四、五、六年级各十名学生,调查内容是询问“如果一节英语课老师全用英语上课,你觉得听课困难吗?统计结果显示:三年级绝大多数表示有困难;
四、五年级30%学生表示没有问题;六年级大多数学生适应全英教学,可达到90%学生是没有困难。
3、过分迷信全英教学,容易流于形式。
改革开放以来,基础英语教育规模不断扩大,教育教学取得了长足的进步。尽管如此,由于历史和文化传统的原因,我国英语这门学科底子薄,根底浅,真正能用英语流利,正确而清楚地表达自己想法的专业性人才还是少数,在小学阶段这类人才的比例更加少之又少。虽然近年来,教育部门是不断提高小学教师的专业要求,招聘英语专业的优秀大学生,但是这样的历史问题并非一时半刻就能解决。根据我最近的一份对全镇英语教师进行问卷调查显示,100%都不能坚持在平时进行全英教学。这里我们可以看出一个问题:平时不能使之成为习惯的一种教学模式,一到上公开课的时候会令学生和老师变得手足无措,当然并非每个人都会这样,有人就能流利地使用英语上好一节课,学生也能配合得很好。但是个别成功的公开课不能说明这种教学手段的有效性,应该更多地关注大部分群体他们平时是如何做的,一味地强调全英教学是否实现。加上小学是学生母语学习和规范的阶段,尤其是中低年龄段学生,完全用另外一种语言传授知识,恐怕他们会变得迷茫。所以说太过迷信全英教学,会使其容易流于形式。

After step 4, some pupils can grasp the knowledge well, but some pupils can’t.so revision is important, pupils should speak english after class as much as they do in class.It is necessary for the pupils to do some exercise after class.So I design the following homework.listen and read the content of this unit
