每年这个时候,我的旅程安排都大同小异:除夕晚上(大年三十)在北京和家人朋友一起过年,大年初二或初三通常便启程赶赴海外打理生意。画廊在春节期间放大假,正好给我足够时间出门。

2008年底,我很看好伦敦之行,有以下几个原因。第一,由于英镑对美元和人民币汇率持续下跌,伦敦日益成为参观展览和购买艺术品的胜地。机票和酒店房价与一年前相比也便宜许多。同时,我也很想看看艺术品价格是否也会同样走低。

第二,北京艺门画廊代理的韩国艺术家崔正化(出生于首尔)在伦敦举办首个个人展,希望我能前往,同时也帮他在我们的英国和欧洲客户、朋友当中做做宣传。

第三,有几个新展览将在伦敦举行,春拍也开始了,其中有一个是中国当代艺术家如严培明、王广义、张洹、曾梵志等作品的夜场。我想参加这次拍卖,感受一下拍卖会现场的气氛,当然也想知道拍卖结果,同时看看都有谁到场,谁举了牌。亲临拍卖现场是无可取代的,这和电话出价或在网上查看结果完全是两码事。

崔的展览占了两层楼。他用独特的结合艺术与建筑的手法,在展览中包含了新近完成的艺术品、循环利用的日常用品、对内部空间的永久性整修以及和英国当地学生一起完成的一个项目,其中所用木制展柜购自伦敦的维多利亚和阿尔伯特博物馆。

崔还把几个2米高的仿真韩国警察雕塑放在入口处和一楼橱窗里。他说这些逼真的韩国交警塑像几年前曾被放在首尔的马路边上,以起到防止驾驶员超速驾驶的作用。不幸的是,这回这些雕塑却起了负作用,反而造成更多事故,因为参观人群会把这些玻璃纤维雕像当成真人而突然放慢脚步。这些韩国警察是现成品,跟马塞尔·杜尚(Marcel Duchamp)的小便池差不多:从原地起出来并“移入”伦敦。不知道伦敦观众会如何看待这些韩国巨人警察呢?

虽然伦敦大雪20年一遇,我还是马不停蹄地看了尽可能多的新展览,其中包括泰特英国美术馆的“变现代”(AlterModern),即2009第四届泰特三年展。该展览由法国策展人、巴黎前卫的当代艺术博物馆东京宫的副馆长尼古拉斯·宝瑞沃德(NicolasBour r iaud)和北京尤伦斯当代艺术中心总监杰罗姆·桑斯(Jerome Sans)策划。

透过第四届泰特三年展,宝瑞沃德想要传达的中心思想是,“后现代主义”业已结束,我们需要重新定义如今的“现代性”。用宝瑞沃德的话说,我们正处于“另一个”现代之中,这是一种缺乏根基的全球性现象,带有现代主义和后殖民主义痕迹残留,而艺术家作为“文化游民”则经历着既真实又虚幻的旅程。

该展览展出的作品主要来自知名艺术家,包括国际上许多与英国关系并不紧密的艺术家。其中一件是以用不锈钢厨具拼出大型雕塑闻名的印度艺术家苏伯德·古普塔(Subodh Gupta)的作品。这次他成功拼了个巨型原子弹蘑菇云。北京阿拉里奥画廊(Arario Gallery)最近展出了古普塔的作品,这也是他在中国举办的第一个个人展。而展览中最美丽的影像则来自英国艺术家达林·艾尔蒙德(DarrenAlmond)去年在月圆之夜的月光下拍摄的黄山巨幅朦胧风景照。

设计博物馆展出的侯赛因·卡拉扬(Hu s s e i nChalayan)回顾展——“来自时尚,回到时尚”(FromFashion and Back)是每一个对时尚和当代艺术的交集感兴趣的人都不容错过的。除了对材料的创造性使用——我特别喜欢有一年他为一次巴黎时装秀所作的设计,把服装变为家具,然后再变为服装——卡拉扬每一季的新设计中都带有强烈的叙事性,提出一些与人类的流离失所、速度和技术相对于有机生长和形式、宗教信仰等有关的重要社会问题和其他一些重要的跨学科和哲学问题。

在我的时尚-艺术之旅中,我还去见了一位客户,即出生于香港的爱尔兰时装设计师约翰·若恰(JohnRocha)。约翰的天赋可不仅限于时装设计,他还擅长试验创造新型纤维织物、室内设计、建筑以及水

晶和珠宝设计。他最近改造的伦敦上流住宅区中心地带的一家旧酒吧开业,这也是他在英国的一个旗舰店,王晋、张晓刚、向京的作品就在英国最重要的当代艺术家之一——弗朗西斯·培根(Francis Bacon)的印刷品旁展出。他的所有作品都来自其个人艺术收藏。具有中国和葡萄牙血统的约翰经常流连于中国,他认为来自世界各地的当代艺术是其作品灵感的重要源泉。

香港/上海艺术收藏家、画廊主人林明珠(PearlLam)在她伦敦家中举办了一场温馨的晚宴,出席者有艺术家、画廊主和博物馆管理人等。大家交谈的话题集中在世界艺术市场及其将在多大程度上受到目前经济危机的影响上。每个人似乎都有自己的看法!英国艺术家兼导演艾萨克·朱利安(Isaac Julien)也是林明珠的客人之一。他去年到过中国,今年还会再来,将在中国各地取景拍摄一部新的艺术影片。艾萨克在2008年里成绩斐然,不但在伦敦享有盛名的蛇形画廊举办了个展,另有一部电影也在柏林电影节上倍受好评。艾萨克作品的焦点主要集中于人们因受经济利益驱使而进行的跨境活动。

有趣的是,尽管在语言和生活上面临重重障碍,每年还是有许多外国艺术家选择中国作为艺术创作地。这对于我们这些活跃在中国艺术界的人来说显然非常振奋人心!

有关时尚对艺术的贡献,佳士得举行的伊夫·圣·罗兰(Yves Saint Laurent)艺术藏品拍卖预展上也展现得淋漓尽致。尽管拍卖将在巴黎举行,藏品却提前在纽约和伦敦进行展出。这无疑是见识法国最杰出时装设计师丰富的艺术和古董收藏的难得机会。展览上看到这位设计大师巴黎居室的照片,也十分令人赞叹。他的家中摆满了艺术品,充满艺术气息,其中有许多莱热(Leger)、毕加索(Picasso)、蒙德里安( Mondrian)、早期绘画大师、著名家具设计师等的经典作品。此次拍卖收益的大部分将归这位已故时装设计师最喜爱的几个慈善团体所有。除了现代艺术品,将在巴黎举行的伊夫·圣·罗兰藏品拍卖会上也有一些16、17世纪的亚洲文物。不过其中最重要的两件是清乾隆(1736-1795)年间修建的著名十二生肖铜兽首中的兔首和鼠首,原来摆在圆明园海晏堂前。这两件文物能否在此次拍卖中被购回中国,值得关注。

回京之前不得不看的还有路易斯· 布罗恩学会举办的王广义个展“冷战美学”(Cold WarAesthetics)。其中许多作品在运出王广义的工作室到英国举办其第一个个人美术馆展览前我都已见过。我想,这次展览会让王广义走上一条有趣而又非常严肃的新道路。

看到王广义用一辆在苏富比拍卖上运货的旧三轮车做成的一件装置作品也让我很高兴。虽然这不是一件很商业化的作品,并且收藏起来显然也不太容易,但它还是成交了,成交价格还很不错!2月5日伦敦苏富比夜拍结束后,在这新年第一场重量级的当代作品夜拍中拍出的天价,显然让一切对中国当代艺术家持久力的怀疑消于无形。

2009年3、4月份,我要去上海、香港,还要去纽约参加军械库展(The Armory Show)和纽约新当代艺术博物馆举办的第一个国际三年展——“新一代:比耶稣年轻”(The Generational: Younger Than Jesus)。

此外我可能还会去日惹见一位年轻的印尼艺术家。

今年晚些时候,我们将会在北京展出他的作品。

看来,我又要在北京度过异常忙碌的一年了!
