联合国“道路安全十年行动计划”于2011年5月11日发起,致力于防止道路交通事故和伤害的发生。该“道路安全十年行动计划”是一个专家项目,到2020年前,每一年将拯救190万人的生命。

ISO通过其两个技术委员会(ISO/TC 22——道路车辆和ISO/TC 204——智能交通系统)已经为机动车行业制定了800多个标准,包括与道路安全相关的200多个专用标准。

目前,ISO正在制定盼望已久的道路交通安全管理体系国际标准,未来的ISO 39001《道路——交通安全管理体系——使用指南要求》将对全世界交通安全的发展产生巨大影响,并减少严重的公众安全隐患。ISO 39001标准未来将采用两种方式发布:或是以国际标准草案的形式,或是作为完全公开的技术规范。
