什么是TOEFL 作文测评系统(e-raterTM)?
托福作文测评系统e-raterTM是Electronic Essay Rater的缩写,它是由美国考试服务中心(ETS, Educational Testing Service)的Jill Burstein博士及其研究小组利用自然语言处理技术 (NLP, natural language processing) 与信息撷取技术 (IR, information retrieval)研究开发的一种在线测评英语写作能力的计算机程序。考生根据由ETS提供的TOEFL作文题目,写出作文进行在线提交后,30秒之内即可获得分数。智能、权威、迅速的在线测评,将帮助考生挑战新托福作文高分。
托福作文测评系统e-raterTM的诞生,缘于美国的GMAT考试计算机化之后,GMAT考试的次数由每年4次增加到216次,由此产生了大量的写作评分工作,e-raterTM于是应运而生。自1999年起,用e-raterTM技术测评GMAT应试者的作文已逾60万篇,经与常规人工批阅作文的结果比较,e-raterTM评分的准确率超过百分之九十七。
e-raterTM是怎么工作的?
e-raterTM的评分流程其实就是人工评阅过程的复制。e-raterTM评分模式的建立,是通过大量分析经过两位或以上专业阅卷老师批改过的某一特定题目的作文,根据阅卷老师批改学生作文时所应用的评比标准,例如句子结构、文章组织以及文章内容等因素,在e-raterTM上建立以大量分析数据为依据的该特定题目的作文评分模式。实际使用时,被测者在用户终端输入根据某一特定题目所写的作文,通过互联网递交给ETS的e-raterTM系统,系统将考生提交的作文与e-raterTM内的模板文章进行比较并做出评分,再将分数通过互联网发送到考生的个人终端,从而完成一次作文评分工作。在这里,作文的字数多少并非得分高低的关键,因为e-raterTM是就文章中的单词、词集、结构和写作内容与系统内的模式进行比照。若系统无法找出文章与模板之间的关联性,e-raterTM就不会进行评分,而只是提供给考生一些建议性的信息。

首先,我有没有扣紧主题?

最后,对句子结构和语言的运用是否有效?
我的文章是否有一个清楚、有逻辑的句型结构?是否包括开端、高潮和结尾?
我是否加入了一些承上启下的词语、句子和段落以使文章更有紧密感?是否运用一些过渡词和词组以便削弱差距并指出倾向角度和观点?对句子结构和语言的运用是否有效?
我们都听说过这句话:问题的关键不是你要说什么,而是你怎样说。分析你的文章时,要注意正确运用那些为了表达思想而写的句子和挑选的词语。不妨问问自己以下三个问题:
我在表达思想时是否运用了所有句型(简单句、并列句、复合句、多层次复合句)?是否把长句和短句结合在一起?
我是否检查了句子的语法?主语和谓语是否一致?代词运用是否正确?
句子的标点符号用得是否正确?
注意:在修改你的文章时,懂得如何运用起强调作用的短句和用来传达深奥思想的复合句是两个很好的技巧。

一)主体词排除错误选项法

托福阅读中总结类型题目分析
官方指导:
These items measure your ability to understand and recognize the major ideas and the relative importance of information in a passage. You will be asked to select the major ideas in the passage by distinguishing them from minor ideas or ideas that are not in the passage. The correct answer choice will synthesize major ideas in the passage. Because the correct answer represents a synthesis of ideas, it will not match any particular sentence from the passage. To select the correct answer, you will need to create a mental framework to organize and remember major ideas and other important information. Understanding the relative importance of information in a passage is critical to this ability. In a Prose Summary question, you will be given six answer choices and asked to pick the three that express the most important ideas in the passage. Unlike the Basic Information questions, each of which is worth just one point, a Prose Summary question can be worth either one or two points depending on how many correct answers you choose. If you choose no correct answers or just one correct answer, you will earn no points. If you choose two correct answers, you will earn one point. If you choose all three correct answers, you will earn two points. The order in which you choose your answers does not matter for scoring purposes.

1. 这种题型的考点是让学生找出三个Main Points(Ideas),而不是找出哪三个是对的,哪三个是错的。
2. 三个错误答案有两种可能性,一种是文章的Minor Ideas,也就是说是小细节。而另外一种错误的可能性就是文章中压根没有提到。从真实考试情况来看,第二种情况出现的可能性比较小。
3. 做这种题目的时候必须对文章的结构、脉络和框架非常熟悉,否则这个时候又要通读文章了。那么怎么对文章熟悉呢?我们发现Summary题型是最后一种题型,因此在做之前所有四选一题型的时候是按照文章顺序分布的,因此建议考生在做单选题的时候一定要认真,文章要看明白,否则做最后的大题目的时候就麻烦了。
4. 从分值来看,这种题型占到2分,选对3个Main Ideas才能够答对2分。选对2个得1分。只选对一个或者一个都没有选对得0分。其实从分值和6选3的概率来看,全部做对和全部做错的可能性都是很低的。从大量的考生分数来看,得一分的情况比较多。也就是说,在考生对全文内容不熟悉的情况下,凭着对着文章主旨的了解来做选择,在6题中做对2题的情况比例非常高。因此,我们可以这样说,只要对文章主旨完全吃透,另外在做四选一的题目时对每个段落的内容有大致的了解,得2分的可能性还是很大的。
5. 三个正确答案的顺序无关紧要,也就是说在考试中鼠标拖动答案到答题框中的顺序不影响最终的评判结果,此时不需要把这个三个正确答案按照文章中出现的顺序来排列,而是只需要把三个正确答案选出即可。

A.托福听力中。当两个人谈到吵或者安静时,最后得出的结论总是:宿舍里读书很吵,应该去图书馆。而不会说搬到别的宿舍。
B.托福听力中,当对话内容涉及演出(音乐会或者电影)或者展览时,最后肯定说它非常好。即使他(她)不会欣赏这些展览或者演出,也会虚伪地说“It makes more sense next time”。

一字不漏地细读
有些考生则喜欢把文章一字不漏地细读托福阅读文章之后再做题。这种方法仅适合于两种情况,其一,考生已具备相当的阅读水平,长期以来运用这种方法效果甚佳;其二,某一篇具体的文章是考生所熟悉的内容,细读文章并不会花太多的时间。

在做词汇题时,许多考生认为做不对题与自己的词汇量有关,认识单词能做对,不认识单词就会做错。事实上,那些认识的单词经常做错,不认识的单词反而能做对。原因是,做不认识单词时,考生会仔细研读词汇题的上下文,力求在上下文中突破。
忽略上下文的重要性
而做单词题时,忽略上下文的重要性,往往是装模作样的看一下上下文,便匆匆做出抉择。所以,做好词汇题关键在于透彻分析上下文——词汇题的句子以及上下一句话,有时候,个别词汇题也许需要在托福阅读文章其他段落寻找线索。

2、看看出版社,大的出版社是不会随便给作者出书的,他们所选择的作者必然是有一定影响力或有一定学术地位的作者,而这样的作者也不会不负责的出书砸自已的招牌,我上课时就有学生拿着一本发动机出版社的书,来问我这本书如何,首先这个出版社我们都没听过,里面错误百出,当然也不排除小的出版社有好书,要综合我讲的所有条件去看。
3、看看这本书是哪年出的,再版了几次,如果是畅销书的话,买这样的书背应该不会出现太大的问题,因为大家又不是智商有问题,去支持一本垃圾书,所以别人已经帮你选择了一下,如果再不能确定可以看书评结合上面列举方法综合判定。
4、作者属名后会出现下列字样还是很有学问的,你要搞清楚后,就知道这本书的大致情况了。如赵丽编—是指里面没有我的东东,我只是到处查找编辑在一起的,这种书的特点是百家争鸣,百花齐放,内容丰富,但没有原创;如果是赵丽编著,里面相当部分内容是原创,这样如果你喜欢这个作者可以在这本书中看到作者的思想和创造,如果是赵丽著,绝对的原创,原汗原味,各种方式各有利弊看你想从这本书中得到什么。
选好了一本书之后,我们开始了坚苦的背词过程,到底人在什么情况下背词效率是最高,有没有不宜背词的时间或最有效背词的时间。
背单词对每个人来说都是一项枯燥的工作,而且常常容易遗忘。同学们从前所用的记忆方法多半是,没事在纸上把单词写三十遍、二十遍,到最后发现单词会写了,什么含义还是不知道.就算是记住了含义,也发现遗忘率极高,于是就得出天才般的结论说:我这个人记忆力不好,不适合学语言。其实这样学习任天才也是记不牢,更何况你我这些凡人,因为那是机械的重复记忆,不如动一下脑筋找更好的方法记单词。
背好单词第一个原则是:人在半饥饿及临近睡眠之前是记忆力最好的时候,所以要充分利用。早上、中午、晚上的这种时候不要浪费。要利用零散时间,不必须用成块的时间去背单词,否则将来走向社会工作时,不会每天都有长时间的空闲,这样不只单词无时间背,好多事情都来不及解决。所以在学习期间要养成好的习惯,利用零散的时间去做事。很短的时间,如果能有效地加以充分利用,就能积少成多,完成你从前无法实现的事情。我对此体会非常深刻:我的《四级词汇串记》一书写于暑假班期间,当时我的课程安排的比较满,每天回家后利用一小段时间写书,终于在暑假期间完成了书的主要部分。可见零星时间的价值和意义, 除了要利用这些零星时间外还要给自已订个目标,有了目标也就有了努力的方向,很多学生坚持不下去的原因就是没有明确的方向,这里更加推荐大家选择一些考试去参加,有了压力也就有了背单词的动力,人都是这样的,有惰性。

Talking about hobbies or goals may seem detrimental to a solid education, but in reality, it can help the teacher explain concepts in ways that the students can relate to. Once I was having a hard time in a math class. That teacher sat down and asked about my interests, and he got excited to hear I liked quilting. He pulled out some paper and showed how the things we were learning could help with my hobby: I could calculate the yardage for a pattern or proportionately change the design’s size. I realized that his popularity was not just based on his chattiness; he used the students’ hobbies to make math practical and interesting.
Popular teachers gain their popularity by doing the things that help students excel. They come up with creative lessons, are available to answer questions, and take an interest in their students. As a result, popular teachers can be very good at helping students learn.

To begin with, the easy access to information allows people to gain more knowledge on diets than before. 这段文字中,所有动词和宾语的形式都是一致的,语言简洁而有力度。
这种将两个或者两个以上的成分用相同的语言结构表达在英语中称为平行结构(Parallelism)。这种结构不但结构紧凑,而且语言优美,甚至可以包含丰富的情感和风格,不但在演说中经常使用,而且在任何英文考试中,都可以成为提高句子质量和表达水平的终极武器。相反,有些同学的句子很长,使用了从句、非谓语等各种复杂语法,如果结构松散,让人难以理清头绪,也不会被考官视为优质句子。
其实绝大多数中国学生其实都不擅长写平行句式,这是完全可以理解的。
毕竟除了诗歌和对联,中文在大多数情况下都对结构是否平行没有特殊要求,我们依照松散的中文句子翻译出来的英文也就很难做到平行了。
“ 高校企业参与了这个神器的新工具的创造,确保了它的融资,并花费时间时产品投放市场。” 从中文的角度,几乎是没有毛病的。
但是直接翻译成英文可能就变成了这个样子:The high school entrepreneur was involved in the creation of a new miracle tool, secured financing for it, and spent time getting the product to market. 这个句子中,“创造”、“融资”和“推广” 都是由学校这个主体发出,最终对象都是 “新工具” 的动作。
因此我们可以将它改成这样的平行结构:The high school entrepreneur created, financed, and marketed the new miracle tool. 这个句子的修改过程,首先是要有意识地使用平行结构,其次是在中文上就对语序作出调整,最后是明确可以并列的成分,也就是动词。
除了以上的动词,介词、连词和冠词也经常能引导平行成分。
我们常用的both ... and、either ... or、neither ... nor和not only ... but also也可以用来连接平行结构,使用时要特别注意前后的结构是否完全平行。
接下来让我们一起用几个句子改错来练平行结构:
1、 许多年从业人员面临两难问题;工作时为了金钱还是乐趣?
原句:A dilemma facing many young professionals is whether to work for money or work for enjoyment.
平行版:A dilemma facing many young professionals is whether to work for money or to work for enjoyment.
2、这对于胜利者和那些输掉的人来说都是一个问题。
原句:This could be a problem for both the winners and those who lose.
