X线检查可了解血胸量的多少，有无合并伤的存在。少量积血仅有肋膈角消失，下胸部不清晰。较大量血胸则伤侧为液体阴影所掩盖，并见纵隔被推向健侧。有气胸同时存在时，可见液平面。

早期胸部损伤发现有血胸，还应进一步判断是否继续出血，应严密观察病情，有下列表现者，表示出血未止，为进行性血胸：①在穿刺抽出大量积血后，短期内又出现大量积血者。②经输血或其他抗休克治疗之后，病情暂时好转，但很快又恶化，或经大量输血，而红细胞计数不变者。③穿刺抽出血液很快凝固者。
